A Star is Born!

The first Starbucks opened in 1971, Seattle, Washington at it famous "Pike Place Market." The company name was inspired by a character from the book "Moby Dick.

In 1983 chairman; Howard Schultz was inspired by Italian coffee bars. He wanted to bring the Italian romance of the coffee experience back to the U.S.

Starbuck here at Kean University is completely operated by Gourmet Dinning LLC. Gourmet Dinning is a New Jersey based catering company with locations all over the state. Gourmet provides their services at several colleges and universities, correctional facilities, and hospital in New Jersey. At Kean University Gourmet Dinning employs more then 168 people between its different food services on the campus including Starbucks. 

On September 21, 2010 the largest Starbucks on the east coast opened in the Nancy Thompson Library of Kean University.
